This week, 5th graders are working on the note low E on their recorders, and are challenging their recorder skills with this fun but fast song. Click below for the play along tracks for "Shrimps on Tour". 4th graders (now 5th graders!) were given a summer packet to use with their recorders over the summer months. Click here to access my recorder page for play-along tracks and websites with fun recorder songs and games. And don't forget to bring those recorders back in September! 4th graders in 208 have permission to take their recorders home for the week, and must bring them back to school on Monday, February 24th. This will count as an assignment grade for the 3rd quarter. Students have two assignments to complete: 1. Learn and practice Dix Ans, using the music I handed out in class. You can practice this song with the recording below. Then, perform the song for someone at home and have them sign the note I included with your music. Invite a friend over and play it as a duet, too! 2. Practice playing Au Clair de la Lune, learned "by ear". Play along with the recording below to practice at home. EXTRA CREDIT: write out the song Au Clare de la Lune either using letter names and rhythm symbols or on the staff. Think about how we write out songs on the board in class! REMEMBER:
How can you play a recorder duet with yourself? 6th graders brainstormed a few ideas involving technology, so I challenged them to try playing our recorder duet Que Pasa with themselves at home. The link to the audio background track file is below. Send any audio/video recording evidence to me by email for some extra credit! Good luck! Marching monsters have taken over 4th grade recorder classes! Students: Use the recording below to play along with B A Marching Monster as part of your homework for this week. Have someone sign the sheet at home and then bring that sheet and your recorder back for music class on Monday, November 25th. REMEMBER:
Zombies have taken over the Auditorium at Stone! Well, they may not be real zombies, but they sure can dance! 5th and 6th graders learned a cool recorder song about zombies that uses only the notes B and A. Students can play along with the track below if they brought their music and their recorders home this week. (Students: if you did bring your recorder home, don't forget to bring it back to school on music class day next week!) As all of the students figured out, this recorder track is based on Michael Jackson's Thriller. If you have your parents permission, watch the full 14 minute Thriller music video/movie on YouTube by clicking here!
All 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will need a recorder for music class this year.
4th grade students need to bring in $5 for a recorder by Friday, September 20th. Students in 203 and 207 who brought in their money selected their recorders today, and students in 208 will select theirs on Monday. 4th graders are required to keep their recorders at school for the year; they will be able to bring them home once in a while to complete at-home assignments. 5th grade students need to bring in their recorders from last year or $5 to purchase a new recorder as soon as possible. 5th graders will be keeping their recorders at school for now, but this may change as the year progresses. 6th grade students need to bring in their recorders from last year or $5 to purchase a new recorder as soon as possible. They will begin the year working on Recorder Karate, a fun and motivational way for the students to progress through 9 progressively harder levels of recorder skills while learn familiar songs. 6th graders will be responsible for keeping their recorders at all times; they will lose participation points if they do not bring them to music class at their scheduled time. Please contact me if you have any questions about the recorder curriculum at Stone! A few reminders for students/parents for the start of the school year:
