We will host our first ever Arts Residency Performances this Wednesday, March 25, 2015, to showcase the awesome things our students are doing during arts residencies this past winter. The parent and community performance will take place at 1:30pm in the Auditorium; all are invited to attend! See the flyer below for more information. On Friday, October 17th, students in kindergarten through the 4th grade at Stone were treated to a performance by the Piel Morena Contemporary Dance company. The five performers used dance to tell the story of the well-known children's book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today" by Carol McCloud. After the performance the dancers talked with the students about being kind and "filling each other's buckets," then taught the students a dance routine to the song "Happy". After the performance was over, the dancers enjoyed answering students' questions about what it's like to be a professional dancer. Enjoy these photos from the performance! Thank you to all of the students and families who attended our first-ever Arts Residency Kick Off event! The evening was full of music, art, and fun! Those in attendance were treated to an introduction of all of Stone's fabulous arts opportunities, an amazing sitar performance by 8th grader Faith G., a gallery of impressive textiles from the Minasian Rug Collection, and an awesome performance by Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion. I am very much looking forward to an enriching year of arts education at Stone, and hope you are too! Welcome back to school everyone! I'm excited to be getting back to Stone after a great summer break! I hope everyone is excited for all of the new musical opportunities that will be going on this school year. I am excited to announce that this year, each grade level will participate in a unique arts residency at some point during the year. Many of this residencies will reflect our ongoing arts partnerships throughout Chicago, while others will introduce new arts partners to our Stone community. And as always, there will be plenty of student performances occurring this year, including our annual Holiday and Heritage Assemblies, an Evening Performance featuring the chorus and fall play, and the Middle School Talent Show. And of course I will be working with Ms. Perry on another fantastic musical theatre production this winter! We'll be adding in an additional assembly in the month of March as well. Stay tuned for additional information about the dates of these performances. I'm excited to have some new technology tools in my classroom this year, including a cart of Chromebooks that will be housed in the Auditorium, and some new MakeyMakey invention kits I received as part of a DonorsChoose grant. I am looking forward to a musical year at Stone! If you have any questions throughout the year, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Congratulations on a job well done to all of the students who participated in the Holiday Assembly performances this past week. And a huge "thank you" to all of the family and community members who showed up for our performance at 8:30am this morning - we truly appreciate your support of the arts at Stone.

The Stone Tech Crew has been recording the students' performances and are making DVDs that will available for purchase at the Holiday Assembly this Friday! Pre-order your DVD now by turning the form in below to the office with payment as soon as possible! A limited number of DVDs will also be available for purchase on Friday.
Kindergartners are learning a fun song about Santa for the Holiday Assembly this year. Students can practice the song at home with this awesome YouTube video: We have a very exciting week of performances ahead here at Stone Academy! Below is a link to the note I sent home with all students regarding performance dates, times, and attire for the Holiday Assembly videotaping and performances. All students should dress in their "holiday best" for these performances, which could include festive-colored clothing, winter-themed hats, traditional cultural attire, or dress up clothes. Please send me an email if you need any clarification. Students participating in Chorus have been asked to wear red and black attire for the Winter Concert and the Holiday Assembly performances. Any combination of these two colors is appropriate, including patterns involving these colors or various shades of these colors.
