We had a fantastic trip - perfect weather, fun activies, great food (and awesome chaperones too!) Until next year...
Perhaps one of the most popular activities at White Pines is the fossil hunt! At night there are plenty of things to do at White Pines: a corn maze, ranch bingo, even songs around the campfire! On day 2 students explored a cemetery on the White Pines grounds as they learned about important dates in history. Then they proceeded to a fun obstacle course area for a lesson on using a compass. After initiative tasks, students participated in an hour long hike to explore the various habitats on the grounds of White Pines Ranch. Once again I will be a chaperone on the annual 6th grade field trip to White Pines Ranch in Oregon, Illinois. Students departed Stone Wednesday morning and will return by the end of the school day on Friday. I will be posting pictures of our experience to my blog shortly!
If you are trying to reach me while I'm away, please be patient as our Internet connection is limited. I will reply to all emails when I return Friday afternoon. All 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will need a recorder for music class this year.
4th grade students need to bring in $5 for a recorder by Friday, September 20th. Students in 203 and 207 who brought in their money selected their recorders today, and students in 208 will select theirs on Monday. 4th graders are required to keep their recorders at school for the year; they will be able to bring them home once in a while to complete at-home assignments. 5th grade students need to bring in their recorders from last year or $5 to purchase a new recorder as soon as possible. 5th graders will be keeping their recorders at school for now, but this may change as the year progresses. 6th grade students need to bring in their recorders from last year or $5 to purchase a new recorder as soon as possible. They will begin the year working on Recorder Karate, a fun and motivational way for the students to progress through 9 progressively harder levels of recorder skills while learn familiar songs. 6th graders will be responsible for keeping their recorders at all times; they will lose participation points if they do not bring them to music class at their scheduled time. Please contact me if you have any questions about the recorder curriculum at Stone! A few reminders for students/parents for the start of the school year:
